Project: Mobile Toy Project

Department: Art

Primary Investigator: Erica Duffy

Purpose: The magnetic mobile sculpture was designed for entry into the competition exhibition: "Toys Designed by Artists" at the Arkansas Arts Center Decorative Arts Museum. The piece is part of a larger exploration into the properties of magnets as they can be used in the design of sculptural objects.

IL Comment: System was designed to user's wishes. Small motor, plug-in power supply, variable voltage regulator and small potentiometer from scrap were used. The motor turns the middle ring, causing magnets on the inner and outer spheres to react, in turn causing the inner sphere to rotate back and forth and spin. User designed and installed magnets to create secondary movement.

Cost to researcher: $0
